LAHORE: The Pakistan Civil Services Academy has appointed Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, Secretary Industries and Trade Punjab, as Syndicate Advisor for a critical research initiative aimed at reforming the nation’s trade policies.
The research is set to explore strategies for sustainable economic growth, regional integration, and boosting foreign investment, with a key focus on tackling the challenges of limited export diversification and trade deficits. In an effort to address the nation’s economic instability, the research aims to scrutinize Pakistan’s current trade policies and recommend reforms that can improve competitiveness and facilitate economic stability.
Dr. Bhutta emphasized the importance of effective trade policies, noting that trade frameworks shape the dynamics of domestic markets and their interaction with global economies.
The comprehensive study will analyze international best practices in trade policy and develop actionable recommendations for reform. The key proposals include balancing export promotion with domestic industry protection, enhancing trade infrastructure and digitalizing customs processes to streamline trade.
Further recommendations will focus on fostering regional trade partnerships, especially with the neighboring countries, and leveraging international trade agreements to attract foreign investments.
With a forward-looking approach, the research aims to create a blueprint for Pakistan to enhance its global trade competitiveness and drive sustainable growth.
