Sindh Chief Secretary (CS) Syed Asif Hyder Shah has taken notice of cutting of trees at the PIDC and ordered registration of an FIR along with removal of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation parks director general and others.
Officials said a case was registered for cutting of trees near the PIDC and the FIR was registered at the Civil Lines police station on the directions of the CS who ordered the KMC to take disciplinary action against the employees involved.
He also directed the South deputy commissioner to submit an inquiry report within 24 hours. The Sindh government had announced steps to restore trees and prevent future cutting of trees, said the CS.
On the directives of Shah, an FIR No 156/2024 was registered at the Civil Lines police station against the individuals involved in cutting four trees at PIDC. The CS emphasised the importance of preserving greenery in the urban areas, especially in Karachi, where trees played a crucial role in combating rising pollution and improving environmental sustainability.
