PARACHINAR: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a tribal elder in the Bagan area of the restive Kurram tribal district on Thursday, police said.
According to police officials, Malik Raees Khan, a social worker and member of the Bagan Welfare Committee, was returning home after attending a jirga when he was fired upon near a mosque in Bagan town. He died on the spot.
The motive for the killing remained unclear.
No individual or group claimed responsibility for the attack. It is worth noting that Kurram tribal district has been grappling with lawlessness for some time.
