PPP, PMLN discuss canals issue, Sindh PSDP

ISLAMABAD: Political coordination committees of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) held a meeting on Monday to resolve the conflicting issues, both political and legislative, and decided to hold more meetings for resolving these issues at the earliest.

The meeting, held at the Governor’s Annexe at Punjab House, took up PPP’s complaints about ignoring the consultation process and non-fulfilment of promises by the government. From the PPP side, the meeting was attended by former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, PPP Parliamentary Leader in Senate Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, PPP President South Punjab Ahmed Mehmood, and Ali Haider Gilani.

From the PMLN side, Deputy Prime Minister/ Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Advisor to PM on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan and Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Ameer Muqam attended the meeting.

Sources said the meeting discussed new canals on the Indus River, and the Public Sector Development Programmes (PSDP) in Sindh as the priority issues. According to sources, the PPP asked for convening a meeting of the Council of Common Interests to discuss federal government’s project of building six canals on the Indus River.
