ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Wednesday supported the proceedings of the Field General Court Martial (FGCM) and impeachment of former intelligence chief Lt. Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed for alleged corruption, misuse of authority, and abuse of power.
In a statement, Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta, President Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, said this was a significant step toward institutional introspection demonstrating that the concept of “sacred cows” or untouchables had now been put to rest.
He called for the accountability of all those who abused their power and misused their authority, saying their actions not only wasted public funds but also placed an additional burden on the public exchequer, affecting the very people who sustained these institutions and were already facing dire economic conditions.
Such individuals have tarnished the institution’s reputation and created a wedge between the institution and the common people, he said, adding that they have not only violated the relevant provisions of their institution but also overstepped their constitutional mandate.
“Initiation of proceedings against this supposedly untouchable figure, along with others like him, is a positive step toward restoring the public confidence in our institutions and will undoubtedly help revalidate their credibility,” Atta said.
He said the SCBA will continue to support democratic values, constitutionalism, rule of law, and supremacy and integrity of both civilian and institutional frameworks.
