LAKKI MARWAT: A jirga of the Abashaheedkhel tribe on Friday demanded the authorities secure an early release of factory workers who were kidnapped from the area a day earlier.

The jirga was convened to make efforts to secure the release of the kidnapped workers of a factory. Several local elders, members of the Marwat Qaumi Jirga, elders from the Begukhel tribe, and families of the abductees attended the jirga.

The jirga announced that a meeting with the commanding officer of the Pakistan Army, the deputy commissioner and the district police officer would be held today (Saturday) at 3 pm to finalise a strategy to secure the release of the remaining kidnapped people.

“We want the safe recovery of our abducted people by tomorrow,” declared speakers at the jirga, warning of severe action if the demand was not met. They criticised the government for its inability to protect employees of such a critical project, questioning the safety of ordinary citizens in such circumstances.

They demanded that the recovered workers should be handed over to their families without delay.

It is worth noting that 17 employees of the project were abducted by unidentified

people. The security forces conducted an operation and successfully rescued eight of them. However, nine individuals remained in the custody of the abductors.
