QUETTA: Fifteen personnel of the Levies force in the Khuzdar district of Balochistan have been dismissed from their positions for failing to resist militants and surrendering their weapons.
A notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar stated that on January 8, during an attack by terrorists on the Levies Station, Municipal Committee, Nadra offices, and a private bank in the Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar, the Levies personnel showed cowardice and surrendered to the terrorists.
On January 8, around 80 unidentified militants riding motorcycles and vehicles entered the Zehri tehsil of Khuzdar and caused damage to several government buildings, including the Levies Station, Nadra office, and Municipal Committee. The armed militants took the Levies personnel present there hostage, seized their weapons, government motorcycles, and vehicles, and easily escaped.
The Balochistan government took notice of the local administration’s delayed response and ordered an investigation. However, before the investigation was completed, Deputy Commissioner of Khuzdar, Yasir Iqbal Dashti, dismissed the 15 Levies personnel, stating that no inquiry was needed due to their clear cowardice and negligence in duty.
It should be noted that the car of the Assistant Commissioner of Zehri was also targeted with a bomb on Friday, but no casualties were reported.
