The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and the DP World have formally announced a strategic partnership to modernise the logistics and delivery system in Pakistan, and set new standards for improvement in the logistics industry.
A ceremony was held in Karachi to mark the partnership. DP World Group Chairman and CEO Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem was the chief guest of the event that was attended by senior officials of the NLC and DP World, government officials, and representatives of the business community.
Speaking at the ceremony, the DP World group chairman expressed delight at the partnership with Pakistan’s largest logistics company and said that the collaboration marked a milestone for the logistics sector in Pakistan. The combination of the NLC’s extensive regional expertise with the DP World’s global capabilities would provide a strong foundation for the logistics industry, directly benefitting the business community, he remarked.
He said the DP World was a globally recognised institution in the field of smart trade and logistics, and its partnership with the NLC would bring significant investment to Pakistan. He added that the partnership would create employment opportunities, increase trade volume and help the local business community compete in the global market.
He explained that under the partnership, work was being rapidly carried out for the construction of modern logistics parks in Pakistan, and movement of containers from the Jebel Ali Port to Karachi and other countries in the region had begun.
He said the collaboration between the NLC and DP World would be a precursor to a revolutionary change in the logistics industry as world-class practices would be introduced in Pakistan providing new growth opportunities for businesses by solving the existing problems in supply chain management.
In his welcome speech, the NLC director general expressed said a partnership with the DP World was an honour for the NLC. The collaboration between the two institutions would promote innovation in the field of mobility and highlight Pakistan's status as a regional trade hub, he remarked.
He said that the partnership between the two institutions would bring in direct foreign investment and create thousands of job opportunities as trade would be facilitated by strengthening infrastructure and connectivity.
As per the agreement, two joint venture companies have been established. The Logistics Joint Venture Company will improve the efficiency of the supply chain in various industries by utilising the latest mobility facilities and best practices. The Road Freight Joint Venture Company will develop the delivery system on modern lines and promote trade with neighbouring countries through land routes.
