BANNU: Faculty members of Bannu University of Science and Technology have announced plans to hold classes on the streets in protest against the government's failure to provide funds to the institution, where salaries have not been paid for months.
"The KP government is only raising slogans and doing nothing practical," said Dr. Nasir Gul, president of the teachers' association, while addressing the media alongside Dr Dalfraz Khan after an emergency meeting.
He said the southern districts of KP, particularly Bannu, were being treated unfairly by the provincial government.
Dr Nasir Gul stated that the university staff was facing severe hardships due to the non-payment of salaries, and the institution's operations had come to a standstill.
He explained that after financial and administrative powers were transferred to the provinces, the other three provinces began allocating funds in their budgets by formulating proper plans for universities and higher education institutions.
The teachers body chief said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had been in power in KP since 2013. "The current government is making lofty claims about spending billions on higher education in the province, yet hundreds of teaching staff and employees at Bannu University of Science and Technology have not been paid their salaries. This is a cruel joke with higher education institutions," he remarked.
