ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has issued production order of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) incarcerated lawmaker Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry to attend the new session of the Senate, commencing from today (Tuesday).
Ejaz has been behind bars for the last 18 months and the Leader of Opposition and senior party leader Syed Shibli Faraz had submitted an application for the issuance of his production order recently.
According to the Senate Secretariat, the copies of Senator Ejaz’s production order have been issued to the Punjab home secretary and the authorities concerned. The Senate chairman said that Ejaz’s attendance in the 345th session of the Senate should be ensured, as his attendance in the session is absolutely essential. The Senate session will start at 4 pm in the Parliament House.
The chairman issued the order in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 84 of the Senate Rules and Regulations 2012. According to the orders of the day for the opening session, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Chairman, Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue, would move that the recommendations on the Money Bill to amend certain tax laws [The Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024], as reported by the standing committee, be considered and adopted.
Likewise, the government would introduce a bill in the House to amend the Special Technology Zones Authority Act 2021 [The Special Technology Zones Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025]. Leader of the Opposition Senator Shibli would table a calling attention notice to draw attention of the minister for planning, development and special initiatives towards the lack of release of funds amounting to Rs8.46 billion by the federal government as per its Release Policy 2024-25 for development projects under the Accelerated Implementation Plan in the merged tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the second quarter (October-December, 2024).
Senator Sherry Rehman’s calling attention notice on the grounding of PIA planes in the context of unclear privatisation plan is also part of the agenda.
Meanwhile, a joint parliamentary party meeting of members of the National Assembly and Senate of the PTI was held here at the Parliament House to chalk out a strategy concerning the sessions of the two houses of the Parliament.
The meeting was chaired by PTI Parliamentary Leader of the National Assembly Zartaj Gul. Among others, the meeting was attended by Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, Shibli Faraz and Malik Aamir Dogar. The meeting discussed the strategy of the National Assembly session, slated for Monday and the Senate’s session, beginning from today (Tuesday). During the sessions of both the Houses, it was agreed to raise voice strongly on ‘political revenge’ against the PTI and human rights violations and other important national issues.
