Cancer, heart patients to get medicines at home

LAHORE:An agreement was signed between the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education and Pakistan Post to provide free-of-cost medicines to patients suffering from cancer and heart diseases. Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood attended the MoU ceremony as chief guests. Special Secretary Development Zeeshan Shabbir Rana and a representative of Pakistan Post signed the MoU Exchange.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, while talking to media representatives, said that today the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has set a milestone in the project of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to provide free medicines to patients suffering from cancer and heart diseases at their homes.

The chief minister launched this project in May 2024. Under the agreement, seven cardiology and five cancer hospitals have been selected in Punjab. An online dashboard has also been designed by the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department for live tracking of parcels. Under this agreement, the best system of free supply of medicines to patients will be ensured and there will be a clear improvement in the system of free supply of medicines to patients at their doorsteps. Khawaja Salman Rafique said that reforms were being brought in the health system of Punjab. A state-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research is being built in City. So far, around 90,000 patients are being provided free medicines at their homes. After this agreement, the target of providing free medicines to about two lacs patients will be achieved.
