LAHORE:Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday launched an inspection of Tollinton Market, resulting in heavy fines and disposal of unsafe poultry products.
The Meat Safety Task Force conducted checks at 17 meat warehouses and suppliers, 46,000 kg chicken were inspected and over 2,000 kilograms of sick poultry were destroyed. The action was taken after previous directives were not followed by the vendors concerned.
Significant quantities of unhealthy chickens were seized and disposed of due to serious violations of food safety regulations. Punjab Food Authority Director General Asim Javed stated the actions were in line with efforts to ensure the safety and quality of meat supplied to consumers.
He emphasised that there would be amendments to existing regulations to further improve meat quality and safety standards. The PFA DG also clarified that the food business in the Punjab province could only operate according to the rules set by the Punjab Food Authority. ‘A public-friendly policy will be followed for those who comply with the regulations, while strict actions will be taken against those who violate the laws,’ he concluded.
