LAHORE: A trial court in Lahore has acquitted Muhammad Yaseen, who was arrested by the Gujjarpura police in 2020 on charges of blasphemy under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The case lingered on for four years as the prosecution failed to present any witnesses to substantiate the charges. The trial court, after recording statements of witnesses, including police officials, concluded that the offence was not proven against the accused. Yaseen’s counsel, Sarmad Ali, termed the decision a landmark judgment. He noted that the case was decided in a month as directed by the Lahore High Court.
