This letter refers to the news report ‘US, world leaders welcome phased deal between Hamas and Israel to end Gaza war’ (January 16, 2025). While coming after too much needless bloodshed, a ceasefire is indeed most welcome. However, it is no thanks to Joe Biden whose real contribution has been supplying to Israel with almost $20 billion worth of arms and ammunition for the massacre, and readying yet another $8 billion ammunition package for Israel, with Britain and Germany also chipping in. Behind the facade of the two-state solution, these sponsors and creators of Israel have been helping it to grab more and more of the Palestinian land, and have been shielding Israel from punishment for its crimes by using their veto powers at the UN Security Council.
One can only hope that the new US president, Donald Trump, being a non-traditional politician, will actually work towards the establishment of a Palestinian state and win the gratitude not only of much-persecuted Palestinians but of all Muslims who form a quarter of world population, living in over 50 countries.
