Right-sizing of housing ministry approved

ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved right-sizing of the Ministry of Housing and Construction.

The cabinet also gave approval to close the National Construction Company (NCL), a subsidiary of the Ministry of Housing and Construction. This institution will not start any new project in future.

The cabinet approved closing of Pak Environmental Planning and Architectural Consulting. This institution will also not start any new project. The Civil Servants Amendment Act will be issued for the closure of Pak PWD by June 30, 2025.

The cabinet gave approval to change the role of Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA). Under the State Enterprises Act, Board of Directors of the Authority will be changed, including independent directors in it. It will be made a self-governing and self-financing institution. The process will be completed by December 31, 2025.

The same decision has been taken regarding Pakistan Housing Authority. A new board of directors will be formed for it.

Regarding the Estate Office, it has been decided its operations will be outsourced. In the first phase, Chamba House and Qasr Naz will be introduced as pilot projects. The Right-Sizing Committee will prepare an implementation plan for the Estate Office by January 25.

The cabinet approved the conversion of Sindh Infrastructure Development Company into Pakistan Infrastructure Development Company. The ministerial committee will take a further decision in this regard.

The Right-Sizing Committee was directed to submit implementation plan by January 20. Currently, the ratio of subordinate staff in the Ministry of Housing and Construction is seven for two officers, which will be reduced to five for two. It will be restructured in the context of dissolution of sub-departments.
