After 15 months of brutal conflict that resulted in the deaths of almost 50,000 Palestinians, a ceasefire has finally been reached in Gaza. This devastating war caused significant casualties on both sides, along with the complete destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure. From the outset, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had vowed to eliminate Hamas. However, neutralising a non-conventional military force that operates using guerrilla warfare tactics proved to be a formidable challenge. Hamas remained resilient throughout the conflict.
For the Palestinian people, who have endured extreme suffering, the ceasefire brings a sense of relief and hope. But while the truce offers a temporary and fragile peace, the broader challenges of achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict and Israel’s illegal occupation and genocide of Palestine remain uncertain.
