ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani strongly objected to the Sindh Government’s amendment to the Sindh Universities and Institutes Laws Act, which allows non-PhD candidates and bureaucrats to become Vice Chancellors (VCs). He demanded the immediate withdrawal of this amendment.
“The Chief Minister, Sindh, would be better advised to withdraw this amendment,” he said on Monday. Rabbani asserted that this amendment would pave the way for the appointment of non-academics as Vice Chancellors.
Raza Rabbani emphasised that universities are autonomous entities governed by their respective acts, and such appointments would compromise this autonomy. “Such appointments will adversely affect academic standards and academic freedom at the universities,” he added.
