ISLAMABAD: Federal Ombudsperson for the Protection of Harassment Fauzia Waqar on Tuesday had an important meeting with provincial ombudsmen to discuss the implementation of the Women’s Property Rights Act, 2020.
The meeting, held at the FOSPH head office, brought together provincial ombudsmen to examine existing laws, challenges, and strategies to ensure women’s property rights are upheld.
Participants included Nabeela Haqim, Provincial Ombudsman Punjab; Rakhshanda Naz, Provincial Ombudsman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Saira Ata, Acting Provincial Ombudsman of Balochistan; and Minthar Ali Jatoi, Consultant Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh among others.
The primary focus of the meeting was the implementation of the Women’s Property Rights Act, 2020.
The participants worked to identify gaps in the enforcement process, address common challenges, and develop strategies for effective implementation.
Discussions also highlighted the need for property rights laws to be enacted in Sindh and Balochistan, where such legislation is currently missing.
The participants shared regional experiences, discussing the common obstacles to protecting women’s property rights, including legal delays, social resistance, and lack of awareness.
Ms. Fauzia Waqar emphasised the critical role of provincial ombudsmen and regional advisers in safeguarding women’s rights and underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation and information sharing among all stakeholders.
