QUETTA: Unknown armed men set on fire a levies post in Panjgur area while two trucks were attacked and burnt down by alleged militants at Quetta-Taftan highway, officials said, here on Wednesday.

Officials said both incidents took place between the night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Reports suggested that armed men attacked a check post of the levies force on outskirts of Panjgur late at night. The armed men who reached the area on motorbikes fired a rocket at the check post which exploded near the post. They captured the post and made the levies personnel hostages. The armed men ransacked the post and took away weapons and communication equipment being used by levies force.

The armed men also burnt down the post before leaving the area. Levies and other security forces rushed to the site and launched a search operation to trace out the group involved in the attack. Police officials in Panjgur confirmed the attack at the check post and said a rocket was fired from long distance. “The armed men destroyed the check post by setting it on fire,” a senior police officer said. However, he did not confirm looting weapons from the post. Meanwhile, unknown armed men intercepted two trucks at Quetta-Taftan highway near Noshki and set them on fire. Officials said that the incident took place late on Tuesday night when these trucks loaded with some minerals were on their way to Quetta. They said armed men also fired at a truck before torching it. “Both trucks were gutted,” sources said, adding that no casualty was reported in the firing. Security forces rushed to the site and searched the area. However, no arrest was reported. It was the second incident of burning trucks at Quetta-Taftan highway in the last one week. Two trucks were burnt by armed men last week at the highway linking Quetta with Iran.
