Strict measures ensured for security of Chinese

LAHORE: In a detailed security initiatives the Punjab government has intensified its efforts to ensure the safety of more than 2,000 Chinese residing across the province.

According to a joint report by the Special Branch (SB) and Special Protection Unit (SPU), more than 9,000 security personnel have been deployed exclusively for the purpose, signifying Pakistan’s commitment to upholding strong bilateral ties with China. The government emphasised its resolute stance on fostering a safe, uninterrupted, and welcoming environment for all foreign nationals living or visiting in the country. Enhanced security protocols, especially at critical points such as airports, are under review, alongside discussions on leveraging advanced technologies to bolster safety measures. In a statement issued by the government of Pakistan, the administration highlighted its priorities, asserting that the safety and well-being of all nationals, both local and foreign, remain paramount. The statement stressed that restrictions, if imposed, are minimal, temporary, and solely introduced when absolutely necessary to support routine security protocols. Foreigners are encouraged to respect local traditions, laws, and cultural norms and plan their activities accordingly.

Moreover, the statement added that visitors facing any difficulties can directly liaise with local authorities or law enforcement to have their concerns promptly addressed. Efforts have been made to ensure effective communication and collaboration between law enforcement agencies, hosting organisations, and foreign missions in Pakistan. The SPU and other specialised units have consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism and dedication.

Their contributions have enabled numerous visiting and temporary resident foreigners to operate in Pakistan with ease and security. Additionally, the Chinese have played a pivotal role in strategic initiatives such as the CPEC.

Their involvement underscores the importance of creating a protective framework that accommodates these partnerships. Reports regarding specific security challenges or grievances raised by Chinese nationals have been taken seriously by the authorities concerned.

Investigations are underway to establish the facts and implement tailored measures to resolve these issues effectively. Officials also cautioned against malicious efforts by adversarial elements seeking to tarnish Pakistan’s public sentiment or the integrity of its security protocols. Such actions are deemed attempts to undermine the significant progress made in ensuring a stable and protected environment for all. As Pakistan strengthens its ties with China, the safety of the Chinese working or residing in the country reflects a commitment to shared development and cooperation.
