LAHORE: foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, has officially launched electric bikes as part of its delivery fleet, marking a significant move towards sustainable mobility. This initiative is a joint effort with the Punjab government and Wasl, a non-banking finance company, aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly delivery solutions.
The launch event in Lahore was attended by Parliamentary Secretary, Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control Shehryar Malik and Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee Ahmad Iqbal Chaudhary. They distributed EV bikes to foodpanda riders, officially inaugurating the programme in Punjab.
The Punjab government has welcomed this initiative as part of its broader commitment to green transportation. “This launch represents a significant step forward in our journey towards a sustainable future,” commented Malik. “By embracing innovation and adopting electric vehicles, foodpanda is setting a new standard for the delivery industry in Pakistan. The Punjab government is committed to supporting such initiatives and encouraging a culture of environmental responsibility.”
Chaudhary added, “The transition towards electric mobility is vital for sustainable urban development. Foodpanda’s initiative is a step in the right direction, demonstrating how public-private partnerships can create meaningful environmental impact while boosting economic opportunities.”
Director of Policy and Communications at foodpanda Pakistan Hassan Arshad said, “This is a key moment in our journey towards sustainability. As the leading delivery fleet operator in Pakistan, we recognise our responsibility to reduce our carbon footprint and create a cleaner, greener future. The adoption of EVs will not only support the government’s environmental goals but also offer long-term economic benefits to our riders.”
foodpanda delivery riders can now access EV financing through Wasl Investment Finance, an SECP-regulated non-bank finance company (NBFC).
