Infectious Diseases Depts to be set up in govt hospitals: Salman

LAHORE:Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Infectious Diseases Departments will be established in all government teaching hospitals. Working is also in progress on Key Performance Indicators in government hospitals. Every project that creates convenience for the people is the flagship project of the Punjab government.

He shared this information while talking to members of a delegation from the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination, Islamabad who called on him in the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education on Thursday.

Dr Sameen Siddiqui and Dr Saifi were part of the delegation while Special Secretary Operations Tariq Mahmood Rahmani and Additional Secretary Technical Dr M Waseem were also present on the occasion.

Medical education, improvement of the nursing sector, patient safety, infectious diseases and Key Performance Indicators were discussed in detail during the meeting. Provincial health minister said that the Punjab government is taking basic steps to improve the health system. We have been working for the improvement of medical education since day one. Modern training of HR is very important for providing the best treatment and care facilities to patients in government hospitals.

He said Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme, Dialysis Programme and Special Initiative for Transplant Programme are flagship programmes in the health sector of Punjab government. Provincial health minister said that modern research is being promoted in government medical schools of the province. All DHQs and RHCs are being revamped and continuous improvement is being made in the nursing department. MSN in nursing is being done and steps are being taken for PhD, he informed.

Khawaja Salman said that he wanted to ensure international standards in the nursing department. The hostels of all nursing colleges of Punjab have been renovated. Recently, 3,000 nurses have been recruited.

Pakistan’s largest Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research is being built in the provincial capital. State-of-the-art Nawaz Sharif Institutes of Cardiology are also being built in Lahore and Sargodha. He said that safe and better treatment of every patient coming to government hospitals is our top priority and effective steps are being taken to ensure patient safety.
