LAHORE:Wapda and the electricity sector employees staged a protest rally under the banner of All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union (CBA) on Wednesday.
Carrying national and workers’ rights flags, they demanded the government wage raise for employees across government, semi-government, public, and private sectors, similar to the salary increase granted to parliamentarians.
The protesters also called for halting pension cuts and urged authorities to address workplace safety concerns, citing a lack of recruitment for over seven years. The non-recruitment of workers for such a long period has increased the burden on existing staff. They paid tribute to workers who lost their lives on duty and honoured the sacrifices of national security forces.
Union leaders, including President Abdul Latif Nizamani and other senior representatives addressed the rally, emphasising the need to uphold workers' rights and freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution.
