Bikers lane pilot project finalised

LAHORE: Biker lanes will protect cyclists and motorcyclists from accidents and the flow of traffic will improve. Biker lanes will be constructed on all roads of provincial capital in a phased manner, LDA spokesman said on Thursday.

He said a pilot project to allocate separate lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists on city roads on the model of China's capital Beijing has been launched on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. In the first phase, the biker lanes have been prepared in green and other colours in a 10 kilometer area from Ferozepur Road, Canal Road to Lahore Bridge, he added.

He said that the modern global concept of biker lanes will reduce accidents and bring about smooth traffic flow. The citizens have been appealed to make the biker lane pilot project a success with their cooperation and discipline.

Meanwhile, a delegation from Overseas Pakistani Foundation, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, led by Chairman Board of Governors Syed Qamar Raza and MD OPF M Arshad Bhatti called on LDA DG. In the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the issues of Overseas Pakistani Foundation Scheme.

OPF is doing excellent work for overseas Pakistanis. Punjab and federal governments are working day and night to restore the confidence of overseas Pakistanis. Overseas Pakistanis are sending billions of rupees of foreign exchange to Pakistan every year.

LDA DG said that LDA will resolve the issues related to OPF Scheme on priority basis. It was decided in the meeting that OPF will seek technical assistance from LDA for its scheme.

108 properties sealed: LDA teams, on the instructions of LDA DG Tahir Farooq, conducted a full-scale operation against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters and sealed 108 properties.

LDA teams conducted operations in Gulberg, New Garden Town, Faisal Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Shadbagh, Gulshan Ravi, New Muslim Town, Shadman and Shah Jamal.

The properties sealed include private schools, restaurants, academies,

salons, workshops, banks, food points, shops, offices, etc.
