LAHORE: The Board of Directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Friday granted in principle approval for cadre-wise salary adjustments for employees, citing rising inflation as the key factor behind the decision. According to a statement from the PIA spokesperson, it was the first salary increase in four years at the PIA, addressing the financial strain on employees due to inflation. “The last salary increase for the PIA employees was made four years ago, after which the rising inflation rate has severely affected their living conditions,” the spokesperson said.
The salary revision also aims to retain experienced personnel within the organisation, as the workforce continues to shrink. “The total number of PIA employees has fallen below 7,000 and continues to decline rapidly,” the spokesperson added.
