LAHORE : The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) was making significant progress in rehabilitating the Mahmood Booti landfill site, with 45% of the work already completed.
According to sources, the Energy Department has initiated plans to install a 50-megawatt Waste-to-Energy plant at the Lakho Dair landfill site, with the project entering its advanced stages. Pre-qualification for contractors has been finalised, and work on the Waste-to-Energy project will begin soon. Secretary Energy, Dr Naeem Raoof, along with LWMC Chief Executive Officer Babar Sahib Din, visited the site to monitor the ongoing efforts here on Saturday. During their visit, they were briefed on the rehabilitation project and the operational efficiency of the compost plant. CEO Babar Sahib Din highlighted that, in collaboration with RUDA, LWMC is working on its first-ever urban forest and solar park project at the Mahmood Booti site. The first phase is expected to be completed by July 2025, while the second phase was scheduled for completion by December 2025. The delegation, which also included, Punjab Power Development Board MD Saniya Awais, Punjab Power Development Company CEO Adnan Mudassir and Renewable Energy Director Aamir Shehzad Butt assessed the efficiency of both the rehabilitation project and the compost plant during their visit.
