The lawyers' dharna at the Hyderabad Bypass came to an end on Saturday morning after Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Waraich along with Hyderabad High Court Bar Association President Ayaz Tanyo and lawyers' leader Faisal Mughal read a notification that said SSP Hyderabad Farrukh Lanjar had gone on leave and SSP Tando Mohammad Khan Abid Baloch had been given additional charge of Hyderabad.
He said the lawyers' struggle was successful because we wanted SSP Farrukh Lanjar to be transferred or sent on leave, and the demand had now been fulfilled, “so we thank all those who supported us and announce the end of the sit-in”.
DIG Tariq Dharejo told The News that due to personal reasons, Farrukh Lanjar has left the charge of the headquarters by taking leave and all this has not happened under any pressure.
On the other hand, Sindh IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon wrote a letter to the additional chief secretary, home department, recommending the formation of a judicial commission on the Hyderabad issue.
The letter recommended that the judicial commission should determine those responsible for the incident of tension between police and lawyers in Hyderabad.
According to Hyderabad High Court Bar Association President Ayaz Tanyo, Home Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, the IGP and lawyers had been in contact since the sit-in began. Hyderabad lawyers ended their sit-in on the National Highway after 42 hours. It had started on Thursday at 2pm at the Wadhu Wah Bypass.
On February 3, Bhittai Nagar police registered a case over the use of a fancy number plate, tinted glasses and a hooter in a car by lawyer Ali Raza. On February 4, lawyers staged a dharna on the premises of the SSP Hyderabad office against the case.
