Medical student ‘raped’ by classmate

LAHORE: A medical student was allegedly raped by her classmate in Sattokatla area on the pretext of marriage.

The accused recorded an obscene video of the victim and extorted Rs1,800,000 for the purpose of setting up a medical store.

According to the victim’s complaint, she, a resident of Sargodha, had come to Lahore to study medicine at a private university. During her time there, she developed a friendship with her classmate, Umar.

The victim alleged that Umar sexually abused her while promising to marry her and filmed the assault. In addition to this, Umar reportedly took Rs18 lakh from her, claiming it was needed to establish a medical store. However, after the assault, Umar reportedly backed out of the marriage proposal.

The victim then filed a complaint at the Sattokatla Police Station. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.

Ex-cop’s son gang-raped: A 12-year-old son of a retired police officer was gang-raped by two youths in Barki area and made an obscene video.

According to the details, the accused Sohail alias Pannu and Nafees lured the victim, the son of retired head constable Vilayat, a resident of Barki Road, to their flat where they raped him.

The victim told his father about the entire incident, on which his father filed a complaint at Barki police station. The police have registered a case against the accused Sohail and Nafees on his complaint and started conducting raids to arrest them.

Two-day training workshop: Punjab Police and UNODC, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime organised a two-day training workshop here on Saturday.

Spokesperson said that in the workshop, awareness and training were provided to victim support officers to assist victims of human trafficking, illegal trafficking, and organised crime.

On this occasion, DIG PHP/CTO Lahore Dr. Athar Waheed informed the participants about national and international legal framework against human smuggling and illegal trafficking.

SSP Nida Umar Chattha highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop, the role and responsibilities of Victim Support Officers. Experts said that with the help of the workshop, effective support and rehabilitation of victims of crime and exploitation can be ensured.
