ALPURI: Two more labourers from Shangla lost their lives in a tragic accident at a coal mine in Darra Adamkhel.
The deceased, identified as Rehman Ali and Sarbali Khan, belonged to the Dherai and Puran areas of Shangla district. Their bodies were transported to their native villages, where they were laid to rest on Sunday.
Coal mine accidents have become a devastating routine for the hardworking miners of Shangla.
Due to lack of local employment opportunities, thousands of labourers from the region risk their lives working in dangerous conditions deep underground.
The rising number of fatalities is a stark reminder of Shangla’s economic struggles and the absence of industrial development.
The residents said that the government had failed to implement necessary safety measures for miners.
Instead of taking concrete actions, they said, the elected representatives from Shangla issue statements and blame others whenever a tragedy occurs.
“Families of the deceased are often given temporary financial aid, but no long-term solutions are provided,” said a local resident. At least 12 coal miners from Shangla have lost their lives in mining accidents over a week or so
