A police constable was martyred in the Manghopir area on Saturday when suspects on a motorcycle opened fire on him.
The assailants fled the scene after the incident. Later, a banned terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack.
The incident occurred near Khairabad Aman Chowk in the Manghopir area of Orangi Town, where terrorists shot and killed policeman Imran, son of Usman Khan.
Upon receiving the information, police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and transferred the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
According to SHO Imran Khan, the slain cop was stationed at the Manghopir police station and lived in Altaf Nagar in Orangi Town. He was on his way to duty when three armed motorcyclists targeted him, shooting him eight times at close range, resulting in his martyrdom.
A lesser-known group, calling itself the Hakeemullah Mehsud Caravan, claimed responsibility for the killing on social media. Allied with Hafiz Gul Bahadur-led Tehreek-e-Taliban Ghazwa, the Hakeemullah Mehsud Caravan was previously active in former tribal areas along the Afghanistan border.
The Crime Scene Unit was also called at the scene, which collected eight 9mm bullet casings. A case would be registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act and other relevant sections at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station. The martyred cop is survived by six children, including three daughters and as many sons.
