Not allowing German CG to visit Quetta citing security incompetence: governor

QUETTA: Balochistan Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhel has expressed regret over the German Consul General’s inability to attend the launch of the “Balochistan Centre for Excellence in Renewable Energy” due to security concerns.

Addressing the event, the governor criticised the decision, saying, “If they were unable to provide security, I could have arranged bulletproof vehicles.” He emphasised that Germany’s investment in Balochistan should be appreciated and welcomed and labelled the refusal of permission on security grounds as a sign of incompetence. “It is being portrayed as though Quetta is burning,” he remarked, questioning the impression being created about the region and its impact on international perception.

The governor said that he would raise the matter with Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Governor Mandokhel described the launch of the “Balochistan Centre for Excellence in Renewable Energy” as a significant milestone for sustainable energy solutions in the province. He highlighted the importance of Pakistan-Germany collaboration, underscoring their shared commitment to social and economic development and clean energy initiatives in Balochistan.

Praising the efforts of the Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP), the governor said that it is the only institution with access to nearly every district in the province. He commended the organisation and its teams for their dedication to uplifting the region.

The governor assured attendees that the Balochistan government remains fully committed to facilitating clean energy projects, recognising energy conservation as a key driver of economic development. He pledged full support and cooperation for sustainable energy initiatives in the province.

After the event, the governor distributed commemorative shields to distinguished guests, experts, and organisers. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Vice Chancellor of BUITEMS University Professor Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Bazaai, Vice Chancellor of Women’s University Dr. Rubina Mushtaq, Accountant General Balochistan Nasrullah Jan, Additional Secretary of Energy Sahibzada Najeebullah, Chairman of BRSP Malik Anwar Saleem Kasi, CEO of the Centre for Peace and Development Dr. Tahir Rashid, Nasrullah Khan Baloch, religious scholars, minority representatives, and a large number of men and women from various walks of life.
