WANA: A local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUIF) Lower Waziristan and four other people were injured in an explosion inside a mosque in the border town of Azam Warsak on Friday.
The locals said the blast occurred inside a mosque during the Friday prayers in which JUIF district head Maulana Abdullah Nadeem and four other people were injured.
The injured were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, from where Maulana Nadeem was referred to a hospital in Dera Ismail Khan due to his serious condition.
The other injured were identified as Rehmanullah, Maulana Noor Muhammad and Shah Behran.
According to DPO Bahadur Khan, a remote-controlled bomb was planted inside the pulpit, which detonated the moment Maulana Noor Abdullah began delivering the Friday sermon.
Law-enforcement agencies launched an investigation, with authorities working to gather evidence and trace the perpetrators behind this attack.
The news of the attack spread rapidly across, drawing crowds of locals to the Wana Headquarters Hospital.
This incident is not an isolated one as Lower South Waziristan has been witnessing a disturbing trend of targeted attacks on religious leaders, scholars, and influential figures, many of whom have lost their lives in similar attacks.
Last year, Maulana Abdullah Nadeem assumed leadership of JUI Lower Waziristan following the assassination of his predecessor Maulana Mirza Jan. Maulana Nadeem previously survived a remote-controlled bomb attack.
