Politicians’ age limit

Sunday, Mar 16, 2025

From the lowliest government employee to the highest placed bureaucrat, all must eventually retire. Replacing the retirees with new entries not only provides job opportunities but also injects fresh blood into the administrative bodies of the country. Our politicians, however, often cling to power until their last breath. These aged parliamentarians arrogate to themselves the task of deciding the future of a mostly young population. MNAs should gather and display some courage by passing a bill that restricts participation in politics, including holding of ministerial posts, beyond a certain age limit. I think 60 years would be enough. The retiree politicians may be encouraged to undertake philanthropist pursuits and public welfare projects from their personal resources.
