The dawn of the 21st century has led to the rise of right-wing politics. Liberal and democratic values are being eroded. There are multiple causes for this phenomenon, which include terrorism, rising immigration from the Global South to the West and also within the former, unemployment due to free trade agreements, and inflation after Covid. Social media has supplemented the nationalistic ideologies throughout the world because traditional gatekeepers like journalists are bypassed through the new media . The rise of right-wing politics has been noticed in almost every country after the 2008 financial crisis. Authoritarian leadership in the US, Italy and India has a strong grip over power. The majority is now overriding minority rights, threatening liberal values across the world. We need to come up with ways to counter this troubling trend.
