SUKKUR: Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) MPA Jam Mahtab Dahar on Sunday survived an assassination attempt in Ghotki, however, his guard was killed and three other persons injured in the attack, SSP Ghotki Dr Samiullah Soomro confirmed.
Unidentified assailants opened fire on Dahar’s vehicle near Khejo link road in Obaro, when he was returning from his agricultural land. His guard, Zaffar Dahar, was killed, while three companions sustained injuries. The dead and injured were shifted to Taluka hospital Daharki. Police launched a search operation to arrest the culprits.
According to a spokesperson for Jam House, three to four people were injured in the attack on Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar’s vehicle. Talking to media, Dahar accused former PPP MPA Sardar Shaharyar Khan Shar of orchestrating the attack.
SSP Ghotki Dr Samiullah Soomro told The News that Jam Mehtab Dahar was going to visit his agricultural land in Khenjoo area along with his private guards, adding that when he reached Allahyar Shakh Khenjoo Road, some unknown assailants opened fire on his vehicle, resultantly Asad Shah, Chanesar Dhandhu and Akhtar Dhandhu were injured, while Zafar Dahar died on the spot. Later, Akhtar Dhandhu was referred to Rahim Yar Khan due to his serious condition.
SSP Ghotki along with DSP Ubauro and SHOs Sub Division Ubauro visited the crime scene and conducted technical examination and collected evidence.
He said that the attack on the PPP MPA was apparently the result of an ongoing tribal feud. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the incident. On the other hand, Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has sought details from SSP Ghotki about the incident.
