The Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) Intelligence Wing conducted an operation near the Taj Complex in Karachi and arrested a key member of the banned terrorist organization Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Al-Khawarij.
The law enforcers also seized weapons from the suspect’s possession. CTD Intelligence Wing Incharge Raja Umar Khattab said the arrested suspect had been identified as Khalil ur Rehman who was affiliated with the Noor Waliullah group of the TTP.
Reports suggest that in December 2024, on the orders of TTP Al-Khawarij commander Misbah, the suspect recorded videos of the Quaid-e-Azam’s mausoleum and various locations in Karachi and sent them to Afghanistan. These videos were later circulated on social media along with a threatening message claiming, "We have arrived in Karachi."
Khattab explained that the suspect was also responsible for spreading messages on social media containing threats, including a viral note that read: "Amir Muhtaram Noor Wali Abu Al-Asim Noor Wali Mehsud, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Karachi Coming Soon." The authorities revealed that the suspect had received terrorist training in Afghanistan.
