ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally protested to Afghanistan over the recent Jaffarabad Express incident, raising serious security concerns. A letter of protest has been sent to the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad.
The protest highlights growing tensions between the two neighbors over security and cross-border activities. A senior Pakistani Foreign Office official conveyed the concerns, urging Afghanistan to take immediate action.
“This is not an isolated case; it is part of a broader pattern we have repeatedly warned Kabul about,” a senior Pakistani security official said. The incident has heightened concerns over Afghanistan’s role in addressing threats that affect Pakistan’s security.
According to Foreign Office sources, the letter expressed Pakistan’s serious concerns and urged Afghanistan to prevent such incidents in the future.
“The use of Afghan soil for activities against Pakistan is unacceptable. We have formally communicated our concerns and expect Afghanistan to take decisive steps,” said a Foreign Office spokesperson.
A senior diplomat told Geo News, “We are engaged in diplomatic talks, but repeated incidents like these complicate matters. We need firm assurances that Afghanistan will act against such elements.”
While Afghan authorities have not officially responded, sources in Kabul suggest the matter is under review. An Afghan foreign ministry official, speaking anonymously, stated that Afghanistan values its ties with Pakistan and remains open to discussions. “We do not support activities that destabilize neighboring countries. If Pakistan has security concerns, we are ready to engage in discussions,” the official said.
