NOWSHERA/CHARSADDA: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was martyred and a traffic cop was injured in two separate attacks in Nowshera and Charsadda districts on Wednesday.
Unidentified armed men martyred an ASI who was going home from duty in Kheshgi Payan area in Charsadda. It was learnt that ASI Muhammad Ilyas, was on his way home after duty when unidentified assailants ambushed his vehicle. The ASI sustained injuries in the firing, causing his vehicle to lose control and plunge into a ravine. He embraced martyrdom on the spot. Upon receiving information about the incident, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. However, the attackers managed to escape after committing the crime. ASI Muhammad Ilyas’s funeral prayers were offered at the Nowshera Police Lines with full honours. The Nowshera police officials, Pakistan Army personnel and various political and social figures attended the funeral.
Meanwhile, unidentified armed men opened fire on a traffic official, leaving him critically injured in Charsadda. The attackers, who were on a motorcycle, managed to flee the scene following the incident. The attack took place early in the morning when the official was on duty in the Umarzai Bazaar. The CCTV footage showed that one of the two assailants got off the motorcycle and fired multiple shots at the traffic official using a pistol, leaving him severely wounded.
The injured identified as Salman was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital. He was later taken to Lady Reading Hospital. However, hospital officials said that his condition was now out of danger. Meanwhile, police registered a case and launched an investigation to apprehend the attackers.
