Islamabad : President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said that Pakistanis stood with the global community in reaffirming their commitment to energy conservation, environmental sustainability and climate action.
In a message on the occasion of Earth Hour and World Water Day 2025, the president said as we switch off non-essential lights, let this act serve as a symbol of our resolve to reduce energy consumption, minimise our carbon footprint and protect Pakistan’s ecosystems. “We must build climate-resilient infrastructure, prevent water pollution and promote sustainable agricultural practices.”
The president urged all Pakistanis to conserve electricity, fuel and water, embrace sustainable habits and take responsibility for a greener and more resilient Pakistan. In a message for the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government was actively pursuing policies that integrate climate action across all sectors with initiatives designed to build resilience and sustainability.
“Our commitment to renewable energy expansion, plastic waste reduction and green job creation is laying the foundation for long-term environmental stewardship.” The prime minister, however, said policies alone were not enough and true change began at home. “Every action, no matter how small, strengthens the collective momentum toward a sustainable tomorrow.”
