PESHAWAR: A delegation led by Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, head of the Pak-Afghan Loya Jirga and patron-in-chief of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on Sunday called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and thanked him for his help in reopening of the Torkham border point.
During the meeting, Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi and Jirga members expressed their gratitude to Governor Faisal Karim Kundi for his serious and timely efforts in reopening the Torkham border.
They said the border closure had caused immense difficulties not only for business and industrial sectors but also for the general public. Due to the 25-day closure, around 6,000 cargo trucks were stranded on both sides, resulting in significant financial losses for traders.
Kazmi briefed the governor about the successful negotiations and highlighted that the border closure had not only affected business owners but also caused losses worth billions of rupees to the government’s treasury.
He expressed appreciation on behalf of the Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Jirga members, and the business community for the governor’s effective and timely intervention.
Governor Faisal Kundi emphasized that reopening the Torkham border before Eidul Fitr was crucial. He acknowledged that this success was the result of collective efforts and congratulated Kazmi and his team for their dedication.
