Poultry meat price issue still unresolved

LAHORE: Holy month of Ramazan has reached its last week but the Punjab government has failed to address the poultry meat price fixation issue besides the overcharging in the markets.

It seems that the issue was not resolved deliberately while giving the poultry mafia an opportunity to fleece the general public. In the absence of any checks and balances, the poultry meat sellers charged their will prices across the provincial metropolis which exposed the weakest writ of the government.

This week again, the official rate of the chicken meat remained unchanged for the fourth consecutive week, fixed chicken at Rs397-411 per kg, sold at Rs600-650 per kg, and chicken meat fixed at Rs595 per kg, and sold Rs780-870 and chicken boneless at Rs1,150-1,200 per kg.

This week again overcharging was witnessed on fruits, vegetables and meat as the meat prices were never implemented anywhere.

The price of potato soft skin A-grade was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg, B-grade at Rs35-40 per kg and C-grade at Rs32-35 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-70 per kg.

The price of onion A-grade was unchanged at Rs45-50 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg, B-grade at Rs35-40 per kg, and C-grade at Rs27-30 per kg, mixed sold at Rs50-60 per kg. The price of tomato A-grade unchanged at Rs55-60 per kg, sold at Rs120-140 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs45-50 per kg, and C-grade at Rs35-40 per kg, mixed sold at Rs80-100 per kg.

The price of garlic local new was further reduced by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs240-250 per kg, sold at Rs350 per kg, Garlic GI variety further gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs360-375 per kg, sold at Rs450-500 per kg and Garlic China reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs580-600 per kg, sold at Rs800-1,000 per kg. The price of both Ginger Thai and Chinese further increased by Rs32 per kg, fixed at Rs405-420 per kg, both sold at Rs500-600 per kg. Cucumber Farm further reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs38-40 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg.

Bitter gourd reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs172-180 per kg, sold at Rs280-300 per kg. The price of Spinach gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs38-40, sold at Rs60-80 per kg. Zucchini farm gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at 47-50 per kg, sold at Rs100-120

per kg, and Zucchini long by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs38-40 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. The lemon Chinese unchanged at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs150-250 per kg. Green chili reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg.

Carrot Chinese unchanged at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs200-240 per kg, carrot local gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs40-80 per kg. Turnip was unchanged at Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs60-80 per kg. Fenugreek (Methi) gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. Pea price further gained by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs140-160 per kg. Lady finger price increased by Rs45 per kg, fixed at Rs229-240 per kg, sold at Rs300-350 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples fixed at Rs170-325 per kg, sold at Rs250-600 per kg. The price of Banana A-category unchanged at Rs250-260 per dozen, sold at Rs350-400 per dozen, and B-category at Rs180-190 dozen, sold at Rs250-280 per dozen. C-grade was fixed at Rs115-120 per dozen, sold at Rs150-200 per dozen.
