RAWALPINDI: A delegation from the US Embassy visited Adiala Jail and met with an American-born prisoner.
A US embassy delegation was granted consular access to American-born prisoner Zahir Zakir Jaffer. The delegation met American-born prisoner Zahir Zakir Jafar at the Deputy Superintendent’s office. It should be noted that American-born prisoner Zahir Jaffer is in prison after being convicted in the murder case of Noor Muqaddam, the daughter of a former Pakistani diplomat. In the Noor Muqaddam murder case, Zahir Jafar was sentenced to life imprisonment for one crime and death sentence for the other, while the Islamabad High Court also converted the life sentence to death. Upon being found guilty in court, Zahir Jafar was sentenced to a total of 11 years in prison and a fine of Rs500,000. Zahir Jaffer has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the death sentence.
