Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority’s National Emergencies Operations Center (NEOC) has issued a high-alert weather advisory for the Pothohar region, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Upper Punjab (Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, and Jhelum), and Central Punjab (Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Lahore, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura) from the evening of April 18 to April 19.
According to it, heavy rainfall, windstorms, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms are expected, posing risks to infrastructure, transportation and agricultural activities. As for potential impact, the centre warned strong winds and heavy rain could cause trees to fall, resulting in temporary power outages.
Also, wind, dust and hail storms could damage weak structures, rooftops, vehicles, and power lines. Hailstorms could harm crops and outdoor structures, especially those with glass surfaces, while reduced visibility. The centre urged residents to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts through official sources.
According to it, travelers should check road conditions before departing and avoid unnecessary journeys during intense weather. People in landslide-prone areas must remain vigilant and adhere to local safety advisories. The NDMA urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimise the risks associated with severe weather conditions. “Authorities remain on high alert to respond to emergencies,” it said in the advisory.
