Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Musadik Masood Malik on Thursday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a pathway to climate resilience, environmental sustainability and improved human well-being.
Chairing a high-level meeting with a five-member delegation of UNDP-Pakistan here, Senator Malik emphasised that the SDGs were not just aspirational goals but practical tools that guided countries in building resilient economies, protecting natural ecosystems and securing a better quality of life for current and future generations. The UNDP-Pakistan’s delegation was led by UNDP-Pakistan’s country representative Samuel Rizk, who briefed the minister Musadik Malik on various aspects of SDGs and Pakistan’s progress on different goals, particularly climate change, environment, education, health, gender equality.
“The SDGs provide a clear framework for addressing the interconnected challenges of climate change, environmental degradation, and social inequality,” he said. The minister said in Pakistan, those goals served as a cornerstone for our climate policy and development agenda.
He highlighted the critical need for integrated efforts across all sectors to ensure meaningful progress. “The government’s action alone is not enough and that collaboration with civil society, the private sector, academia, and international partners is essential for achieving the SDGs,” he said.
