PU decides to move FIA against absconding teachers

LAHORE: Punjab University (PU) has decided to write to FIA for recovery of millions of rupees from 12 of its teachers who went abroad on scholarships and absconded.

The PU administration will also write to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior to block the CNICs and passports of the absconding teachers.

In a press statement, a PU spokesman said that 56 teachers of Punjab University had received grants worth millions of rupees for their PhDs studies abroad, out of which 12 teachers did not join. He said that seven absconding teachers availed HEC scholarships and five teachers availed PU overseas scholarships.

He said that according to the law, all teachers were required to return home after doing PhD and serve in the university for five years. He said that the absconding teachers had to pay millions of rupees to the university as per the agreement for not joining the duty. According to the spokesperson, Farah Sattar from Center for Geographical Information Systems has absconded without paying more than Rs7 million, Syed Mohsin Ali of the Center for Geographical Information Systems has absconded without paying more than Rs14 million, Kiran Ayesha of the Institute of Administrative Sciences has absconded without paying more than Rs10 million, Rabia Abbas of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics has absconded without paying more than Rs9 million, Khawaja Khurram Khurshid of the Institute of Quality and Technology Management has absconded without paying more than Rs8.4 million, Shumaila Ishaq of the Hailey College of Commerce has absconded without paying more than Rs16.1 million, and Dr. M Usman Rahim of the Center for Coal Technology has absconded without paying more than Rs7.2 million.

He said that Salman Aziz from the College of Engineering and Emerging Technology absconded without paying more than Rs9 million, Dr Seemab Ara Farooqi from the Institute of Administrative Sciences more than Rs10 million, Samia Mahmood from the Institute of Administrative Sciences more than Rs11.6 million, M Nawaz from the Center for Geographical Information Systems more than Rs7.2 million, and Javeria Iqbal from the PU College of Information Technology more than Rs6 million. He said that the Punjab University has also terminated 12 absconding teachers from the university service.
