An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday sent 14 suspects to jail on judicial remand in a case pertaining to the murder of an Ahmadi man in the Saddar locality.
Investigating officer Shahid Hussain produced the held suspects before the administrative judge of the ATCs and sought their physical remand until May 4 for interrogation.
He informed the court that 14 suspects had been arrested, while six others had already obtained pre-arrest bail. He said that three suspects and other unidentified individuals are still at large.
He said the custody of the arrested suspects was required for interrogation to arrest the fleeing suspects and to gather information about the unidentified ones. The judge, however, rejected the IO’s request and remanded the suspects to jail on judicial remand.
An FIR had been lodged at the Preedy police station under the Pakistan Penal Code’s sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) and 302 (murder), read with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
