LAHORE: Director General of the Walled City Authority Lahore (WCLA), Kamran Lashari, has resigned from his post late Wednesday night.
Sources in the authority claimed that the development came after the administrative control of all the historical monuments and heritage sites were given back to the Archeology Department. Sources said some four months back LHC has also directed WCLA to stop holding private functions, gatherings and any other events at historical sites because as per the existing rules such activities were not permissible. Sources claimed that recently a reception linked to a marriage ceremony of a senior beaurucrat’s son was held at Royal Kitchen in Lahore Fort. When contacted, Kamran Lashari confirmed that he has resigned from his post. He said his resignation came after the LHC directed the department to give back the control of all monuments and historical sites back to the Archeology Department. He said the WCLA and Archeology Department has already finalized the new rules for holding events at the historical sites and those were submitted to Punjab Cabinet for approval. The scribe also tried to contact Punjab Senior Minister Marriam Aurangzeb and Information Minister Azma Bukhari and Chief Secretary Punjab but none of them attended the calls neither reply the txt messages sent to them in this regard. Kamran Lashari was a senior civil servant and has served at several key posts including Chairman Capital Development Authority, federal secretary environment and was holding the position of DG WCLA for the past many years and after retirement he got multiple extensions as DG WCLA.
