Two Levies personnel martyred in Mastung polio team attack

QUETTA: Two Levies personnel assigned to protect a polio vaccination team were martyred in a gun attack by unidentified armed assailants in the Mastung district of Balochistan.

According to Levies officials, the incident occurred in the Kali Teri area, where armed men opened fire on Levies personnel. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of Nake Muhammad and Maqsood Ahmed. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. During the operation, two individuals were arrested, while one injured suspect managed to flee. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack targeting a polio vaccination team in Mastung city of Balochistan. The prime minister, who is currently on a two-day visit to Turkiye, expressed grief over the martyrdom of the Levies personnel guarding the polio vaccination team, said a statement issued by the PM Office. “Such incidents cannot weaken the government of Pakistan’s resolve to eradicate polio from the country completely,” he reiterated. Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti also condemned the attack, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of the Levies personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty. The government of Balochistan’s spokesperson, Shahid Rind, strongly condemned the attack, stating that all aspects of the incident are under thorough investigation.
