Man held for demanding Rs30m ransom from property dealer in DHA

The District South police on Friday arrested a suspect for allegedly demanding Rs30 million in extortion from a property dealer and builder in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

According to the police, the arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by the Defence police and a federal intelligence agency. The extortion case was registered on the complaint of the victim, Ameenuddin. The arrested suspect, identified as Ehtesham, was revealed to be a friend of the complainant’s son.

The oolice said that on April 12, the suspect delivered an envelope containing a bullet and a threatening note. To avoid identification through CCTV cameras, the suspect wore a mask, sunglasses, and a cap. On April 16, Ehtesham allegedly made a WhatsApp call from an international number, demanding Rs30 million in ransom. He later contacted the complainant’s business partner, Khursheed, on April 22. The following day, at around 4pm, the suspect reportedly visited DHA to assess the situation.

The police recovered the mobile phone used in the extortion calls, which contained an international SIM card, as well as the weapon used in the crime. Further investigation is underway.
