Three siblings among 11 die in separate incidents

LAHORE: In a span of just 24 hours, the City was gripped by a wave of tragedies that claimed the lives of 11 individuals in separate incidents.

The most devastating incident occurred along the River Ravi, where three young siblings drowned. According to initial reports, the children were playing near the riverbank when they fell into the flowing waters. Rescue 1122 recovered bodies of the siblings identified as Naseebullah, 6, Ameer Hamza, 7, and 9-year-old Qudratullah.

Bodies were handed over to their parents.

In another incident, 60-year-old Kaleem, a resident of Rang Mahal, died in a road accident near Chuhng. The accident occurred when a speeding car collided with Kaleem's motorcycle. Witnesses said that Kaleem appeared to be riding cautiously when the car, approaching at high speed, struck him from the side. He was thrown off his bike and suffered critical injuries that led to his death on the spot. The car driver fled the scene.

In another road incident in Guldasht Town, a 55-year-old man was hit to death. The victim, who remains unidentified, was found by passersby lying on the roadside. Police shifted the body to the morgue.

Besides, a 66-year-old motorcyclist, Saleem Hussain, died and his granddaughter was injured after being hit by a speeding Punjab University bus in the Gulberg area. The driver fled the scene after the accident. According to rescue sources, Saleem Hussain was on his way to drop his granddaughter off at school when a speeding bus coming from behind hit the motorcycle, killing him on the spot, while the girl was injured. Rescue teams provided first aid to the injured, who was later moved to a hospital.

In yet another incident, an 8-year-old child was run over by a speeding car on Ring Road. According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence. The child died at the scene.

The child, whose identity was withheld out of respect for the grieving family, was reportedly crossing the road when a fast-moving vehicle struck him.

The driver fled the scene. According to police reports, he attempted to escape towards Sherakot. The in-charge of the Mayo Hospital checkpoint, who had been alerted through a radio message, spotted the fleeing vehicle and immediately gave chase. The dramatic chase concluded near Badami Bagh Mandi, where the officer intercepted the vehicle and managed to apprehend driver identified as Shafqat. He was handed over to the Badami Bagh police station. A case was registered.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his Mian Mir house. No suicide note was recovered, and the motive remains unknown.

In Islampura, a 30-year-old man was electrocuted while attempting to fix an electrical issue. The victim, identified as Noman, son of Imtiaz, was reportedly working near an electric pole when he came into contact with a live wire.

Locals tried to assist him before calling Rescue 1122, but Noman was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, a family dispute took a violent turn in Nawab Town where a man was fatally shot by his sister and two nephews following a minor argument over a piece of land. Emotions quickly flared during the quarrel between Liaquat and his sister Suraiya, along with her sons Gulsham and Zeeshan. The nephews allegedly opened fire on their uncle.

Liaquat sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where he died. The accused fled the scene after the shooting.

A murder case was registered against Suraiya, Gulsham, and Zeeshan on the complaint of Liaquat’s son.

Police arrested Zeeshan while raiding to apprehend the remaining suspects.

In yet another incident, body of a man was found lying unattended in Garhi Shahu area. Police later identified him as 27-year-old Shahbaz, son of Arif. Initial investigations suggest that he was a drug addict who likely died due to an overdose. No injuries or signs of foul play were found on his body. The Edhi ambulance service transported the body to the morgue.
